The ancient Egyptian god Nu, also known as Nun, is the god of the primordial inert waters that birthed creation. Nu is endlessly dark and endlessly vast. It is the ultimate representation of chaos and potential for order. Nu was one of the representation of balance in Egyptian mythology, as Nu contained both chaos and potential creation.

Nu is at times called the “Father of the Gods,” as in every Egyptian creation myth the creator god(s) rose from Nu’s waters. Much later, Coptic Christians considered Nun the “abyss of hell,” and was considered to be the epitome of disorder.
In the Hermopolis version of the Egyptian creation myth, his counterpart in the Ogdoad was Naunet.
